Special Update

Memorial Service
Longtime member of Wheaton CRC and dear friend, Antina Greve went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 11. She died in Holland, Michigan where she had been living for the last several years. We will have a memorial service for Tina at WCRC on Monday, April 21 at 2:00 p.m. The service will be followed by a time of fellowship and light snacks in the Fellowship Hall of the church. The graveside service (prior to the 2:00 p.m. memorial service) will be for family members.

Pastors Class
Pastor John will soon begin a new class for those who wish to inquire further about the faith and practice of our church. This class is designed for those who wish to seek membership and also for those who simply want to get a “refresher” on the Reformed faith. If you are interested in taking the class you can sign the sheet on the table by the door or inquire about it from Pastor John.

Sermon Theme: March 9th
John 11 contains one of the most wonderful (because it is most hopeful) of Jesus’ signs and wonders in the gospel of John. It is the restoration of life to Jesus’ dead friend Lazarus. Do read the story before church next Sunday morning.

Mike and Victoria VanderDyke
The VanderDyke's will be with us next week Sunday evening. Mike will preach for us in the service. We will also have a chance to meet with Mike and Victoria for Q&A time after the service.

Whirlyball
Join us for Whirlyball on Saturday, March 8, in Lombard. Invite your friends and family. Currently we are well short of the 80 people needed to fill the place. Bring some food to share (no outside drinks allowed) and then hop in a bumper car for the fun. The games begin at 6 p.m. and go until 9p.m. Cost will be between $15 and $20 depending on the number of people. There is a sign-up sheet in the Lobby. For more info contact Keith Ellens.

Adult Discussion Group
Sunday, March 2nd, Dr. Vince Bacote, Wheaton College Professor, will speak on “Ancient heresies and how they strengthen our faith.” Adult Sunday School next week, March 9: Our WCRC Design Committe will present a progress report on their plans for a permanent cross for the front of our church sanctuary.

Community Service Opportunity
Please stay for a short while after the evening service on Sunday, March 9, to help prepare a meal for clients of PADS, a homeless shelter serving DuPage County. Or help serve the meal at lunchtime on Monday, March 10, at the PADS day program in Wheaton. Contact Jennifer Ellens or Regina VanKley for further information.

Soup and Pie Luncheon
March 16th, in the Fellowship Hall, 12:00-1:30, after the morning service. The food is all homemade and everyone is invited. It is this year’s fundraiser for the Junior High Youth Group, so a freewill offering will be collected. Please sign up on the sheet in the Lobby.

Vacation Bible School
Our church will again partner with Vietnamese New Hope CRC in Winfield for a week of evening (6:45 to 9:00 pm) Bible School the week of June 23 to 27. We need lots of adult and teen help in leading this fun and meaningful ministry. So please look at your calendar, and pray about leading or helping in the area of music, Biblical storytelling, crafts, set up, snacks, games, skits, etc. Pray too about the children and their friends who will benefit from this (K thru Grade 6). We will be using a curriculum called “Power Lab.” It is a science theme, so we may be looking for some scientists to do some lab demonstrations. Please see Jeri or Larry Kendrick for more information

"Are Mom and Dad Ok"
“When do I start getting concerned?” “How do I get involved and still show my parents the proper respect?” “Where do I find the information I need?” If you have asked yourself any of these questions, plan now to attend a free seminar at Elmhurst CRC (905 South Kent in Elmhurst) on Thursday, March 13, at 6:00 p.m. Renowned geriatrician and presenter Dr. Roger Weise will combine faith and expertise in a keynote address specifically for families of aging loved ones. His presentation will serve as a foundation for two breakout sessions that follow: “Developing a Plan” and “Dealing with Dementia.” For your convenience, this special three-hour event includes supper and materials. Call Nancy with questions or to RSVP: 630-279-5516, x210; or email secretary@elmhurstcrc.org. This event is co-sponsored by Rest Haven Christian Services and Elmhurst CRC Healing Ministries.

Twelve Steps to Spiritual Growth
If you are looking for help, hope and healing for yourself or a loved one with behaviors that could impede growth in Christ (over-eating, smoking, etc.), this is the group for you. We are studying the book “The Twelve Steps for Christians.” The group meets weekly from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at church, and anyone can join at any time. We review all 12 steps each week, and will spin off new groups as needed. We share fellowship, prayers and Bible study during our time together. There is no child care. Familiarity with 12 Step programs is not a requirement. Questions? Contact Harold Visser or Marge Visser.

Senior Christian Fellowship

Both of these young men are committed Christians who have dedicated their tremendous musical talents to the Lord. Invite a neighbor or friend to join you for this concert followed by a dinner served in the church Fellowship Hall. More details are available in the Lobby.
