Worship

We at Wheaton Christian Reformed Church believe that worship is a lifestyle through which we consistently recognize the greatness of God and express gratitude for that which we've been given. We gather for corporate worship from these individual lives of worship in order to join our voices in praise of God. Our worship seeks to honor the generations and cultures of those individual lives of worship through various styles of music and liturgical selections. Our goal is worship that everyone can participate in, from the youngest to the oldest among us. We gather twice on the average Sunday with two distinct worship services.

Sunday Morning Worship:

We gather at 10:30 on Sunday mornings after a Sunday School hour that begins at 9 am. Our Sunday morning worship is the largest and broadest gathering of our community and is intergenerational with children and senior citizens sitting together in the pew. We follow a liturgy that has been prepared for that week that includes a greeting, confession and assurance, prayers, Scripture and a sermon. We also sing in that service a mixture of hymns, contemporary songs and songs from around the world. Piano and the organ are staples of our music, but we also regularly have guitars, drums and various other instruments.

Nursery is provided for infants and toddlers on Sunday mornings and can be found in the lower level of our facility. Our nursery attendants are carefully selected and have all gone through background checks. We also have a pager system so that parents can be contacted if their child is distressed.

We encourage pre-school and early school age children to participate in worship with their parents. Just before the sermon time, children from pre-school to second grade are encouraged to leave the service to go to Children's Worship where they hear a Bible story.Dave and Bob

Following worship we gather in the lower level of our facility for coffee, snacks and fellowship. All are encouraged to join us in the fellowship hall in order to connect with others from the community.

Sunday Evening Worship:

We gather at 5 p.m. for worship that is similar in many ways to the morning worship, but has its own more intimate atmosphere. One distinctive of the evening service is that we take prayer requests and lift those requests in prayer to God. Many find the more contemplative syle of the evening service to be a fitting way to close out the Lord's day and return to our individual lives of worship.
