Q: What time is your worship and how long does it last?
A: We gather on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. during the school year and 9:30 a.m. from June through August. Our worship typically lasts 75 minutes and includes singing, prayers, and a sermon based on the Bible.
Q: What should I do with my kids during church?
A: We have a nursery in our lower level for infants and toddlers, so feel free to bring them down there before the service. Starting at age 3 we include our children in the first part of worship, dismissing them with a blessing for a learning time during the sermon and conclusion of worship. This pull-out program continues through first grade, after which point we include our children in the full worship service.
Q: What programs do you have for my kids?
A: As mentioned above, we have programs for younger children during the service. We also have Sunday School for all school age children from 9 to 10:15 a.m. on Sunday mornings. Beyond that, we also have a boys’ club (Cadets) and girls’ club (GEMS) that meets on Tuesday nights, and youth ministries for junior and senior high students. You can find details about all these programs on our website under Ministries.
Q: How should I dress?
A: The typical style of dress at Wheaton Christian Reformed Church could be described as Business Casual. But you will find people who dress up in suits or dresses and those who dress down in jeans or shorts. We care less about how you dress than that you are here!
Q: What is worship like at Wheaton CRC?
A: Our worship at Wheaton CRC is a combination of several different influences. We follow a pretty formal outline for our worship, but the words and songs within it change week to week. We include responsive readings and prayers as well as those led by a liturgist or the pastor. Our music is pretty eclectic, with some combination of hymns, folk songs, contemporary praise songs and world music every Sunday. You can find more information about our worship on the website under I’m New.
Q: Where should I park?
A: We have an upper parking lot near Howard Street and a lower one near Cherry Street, with a canopy for drop offs between the two. You may want to arrive on the entrance by Howard Street and drive under the canopy before finding a parking spot in the lower lot. In addition, there is parking on Harrison Avenue in front of the church and on Howard and Cherry Streets.
Q: What do you believe?
A: We are Christians in the Reformed tradition, which means that we hold to the major Christian creeds while emphasizing the particulars of the Protestant Reformation. Put simply, we are “Presbyterian with a Dutch accent.” To find more details, please go to the Who We Are portion of our website.
Q: How many people attend Wheaton CRC?
A: Our average worship attendance is around 150 people, large enough to join our voices in worship while small enough to know and be known.
Q: How do I get connected?
A: Connection happens in lots of formal and informal ways. Upon a visit to our church you will likely be introduced to many people and invited into conversation and relationship with them. You can get to know people better by joining a small group or volunteering for one of our programs and activities.
Q: How is the church organized?
A: We follow the presbyterian model for organization, including elders and deacons who combine into one council that is elected from among the members of the church. You can find more information on our organization as well as the names of our leaders under Who We Are on our website.
